Installation Procedures

1. Hazard Assessment

• Survey set up locations for the purpose of controlling and eliminating hazards which may compromise the safe use of the Safety Rail System
• Ensure geographic health and safety regulations are in compliance prior to erection

2. Tape measure

• Measure width of the parapet to pre-set width allowing for setting Adjusting Clamp away from leading edge
• Measure and mark locations at 10’ intervals for straight post locations and set straight post to accommodate a height between 18” for mid cable and 36” for top cable.

3. Winch

• Follow attaching cable to winch drum instructions
• Cut 6 feet of cable from supplied cable
• Install one end to hand winch drum
• Loop one end through hook
• Mount winch to end post (use two 3/8” bolts)
• Refer to Diagram A and B

4. Adjustable Clamp

• Adjust clamp to fit parapet install quick pin
• Tighten “T” bolt until in a “snug tight” to parapet at predetermined locations (do not over tighten)

5. Corner Post

• Ensure adequate substrate strength
• Fasten to inside and outside corners as per Professional Engineering specifications
• Refer to engineer design specification for fasteners
• Install quick pin
• Refer to Diagram C

6. Straight Post

• Install post with cable keepers to inside of parapet
• Mount every 10’ at predetermined locations
• Install quick pins
• Refer to Diagram C

7. Combo End Post

• Mount winch on one end post
• Start with end post end with end post at Safety Rail System termination point
• Install quick pins
• Ensure substrate of adequate design and good construction
• Fasten as per Professional Engineering specifications
• Refer to Diagram A and C

8. Combo Break Post

• Determine area for hoisting and garbage removal
• Slip break post cable tie downs over parapet clamp
• Install quick pins
• Fasten as per Professional Engineering specifications
• Refer to Diagram C

9. Threading Cable through Rail

• Place cable spool beside hand winch
• Loop end of cable (Diagram B)
• Thread cable through mid rail and top rail (Diagram A, C, and D) by hand, pull all loose cable back to winch
• Hook loop and winch in slack cable
• Ensure lock mechanism is set on winch

10. Inspection

• Complete visual inspection upon erection
• Double check “T” bolt on Adjustable Clamp until in a “snug tight” to parapet at predetermined locations
• Ensure Safe Work Practices and Job Procedures developed for the use of the Safety Rail System identifies that workers do not lean on cable or steel components of the system when working in vicinity
